My client has been established for over 50 years working on some of the most prestigious projects across the UK. They are now looking to add a Planning Manager to their team.

- Facilitate ‘on time in full’ delivery to meet agreed targets.
- Describe and set policies for best practice and train/coach stakeholders both in the Project Planning Team and wider supply chain.
- Promote ‘zero defect’ mentality.
- Guide team members in collecting and sharing data to enable learning and focused management reporting.
- Visibly employ a Plan-do-check-act philosophy
- Serve the Planning Department to ensure that they deliver the highest standard of service & output to meet the needs of their internal & external clients.
- Support the Planning Department in a manner that engenders teamwork, communication, self-organisation and continuous improvement; providing hands-on coaching & guidance to optimise individual performance.
- Actively engage in the development, and own the delivery of the Planning Department action plan and ensuring KPIs are met or exceeded.
- Continuous enhancement of the Team’s performance, ensuring that improvements support business operations and comply with statutory obligations.
- Own the Planning Department capability matrix, ensuring skills/experience are understood, utilised and improved; providing direct support to team members when required. With the Commercial Director, review against project discipline mix to ensure that suitably qualified/experienced resource is always available to meet the company’s commitments.
- Responsibility for advising the Commercial Director on whether team resource levels are matched to current & future workload.
- Demonstrate a passionate approach towards employee retention & the development of team members; ensuring effective appraisals are carried out regularly and individual development & training plans are created to support business growth and succession planning.
- Own the set-Up & control of project planning, progress/performance measurement & reporting frameworks to enhance Project Teams' ability to successfully deliver a project through the identification of risk & opportunity, understand & deal with change & disruption, recovery from EoT claims & variation. Provide foresight & insight to the business management team and to meet the company's contractual obligations.
- Instigate the set-Up & regular monitoring of contract compliant, strategic, logical & usable Master Project Programme's, which incorporate contract milestones, client deliverables, pre-construction & construction activities etc.
- Effective implementation & oversight of coordinated medium & short-range project programmes for use by the project team to plan & communicate intent & requirements, and to maximise focus on critical path delivery.
- Initiate creation & continuous review of weekly/fortnightly/monthly programme droplines, metric-driven reports & dashboards; to easily inform project stakeholders of plans, progress, risks & opportunities.
- Willingly engage with the Tender Planning Team to ensure that programmes submitted with bids are strategically formatted to maximise opportunity & minimise risk.
- Proactively communicate with the project management teams & department heads to effectively communicate the status of projects & recommend specific actions to address risks & opportunities.
- In order to increase project & business performance, drive the review, trial & implementation of appropriate Planning & Reporting KPI's, the "Last Planner" system, Agile Design Management systems, as well as Earned Value Analysis.
- Through active collaboration with the Commercial Director & other functions, lead the continuous enhancement of the service & value provided by the Planning Department.
- Attend both internal & external meetings during tender, pre-construction & construction periods when necessary. Including but not limited to; tender strategy meetings, tender settlement meetings, project launch meetings, lessons learnt meetings, mid-bids, post-tender meetings, project design meetings.
About the Candidate
Previously held a Planning Manager position
Have good attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Experience of working for a constructions company preferably a specialist sub-contractor
Broad construction
Manage project supply chain partners effectively and efficiently.
