An exciting opportunity has arisen for Architect / Planner The organisation is part of a highly successful, privately owned group of companies that specialises in the residential market from Building Surveying, Structural Engineering to Design & Build Construction. The successful candidate will be working for the D&B arm of the group, with the opportunity to make the Planning department their own. The primary function of the role will be designing and applying for planning permission from local authorities. In addition to designing substantiable structures and homes for clients.

Role & Responsibilities

• Creating building designs and highly detailed drawings both by hand and by using specialist computer-aided design (CAD) applications.

• Liaising with construction professionals about the feasibility of potential projects.

• Working around constraining factors such as town planning legislation, environmental impact and project budget.

• Working closely with a team of other professionals such as structural engineers, construction managers and quantity surveyors.

• Applying for planning permission and advice from governmental new build and legal departments.

• Writing and presenting reports, proposals, applications and contracts.

• Specifying the requirements for the project.

• Adapting plans according to circumstances and resolving any problems that may arise during construction.

• Playing a part in project and team management.

• Travelling regularly to building sites, proposed locations and client meetings, typically in Greater and the Home Counties.

• Control project from start to finish to ensure high quality, innovative and functional design.

• Take the “brief” to identify clients’ needs and put together feasibility reports and design proposals

• Develop ideas keeping in mind client’s needs, building’s usage and environmental impact.

• Produce detailed blueprints and make any necessary corrections.

• Compile project specifications

• Keep within budgets and timelines

• Ensure that all works are carried out to specific standards, building codes, guidelines and regulations

• Make on site visits to check on project status and report on project

• Cooperate and liaise with construction professionals

• Follow architectural trends and advancements

Candidate Requirements

• Proven working experience as an Architect if intermediate level.

• Strong knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.

• Excellent drawing skills and familiarity with design software (Adobe Photoshop, CAD, SketchUp, 3d Studio VIZ or similar).

• Strong imagination and the ability to think and create in three dimensions.

• Visual awareness with an eye and attention for detail.

• Communication and project management skills.

• BS degree in Architecture.

• Good understanding of building and construction.

• Have a clear understanding of Building Regulations and Planning.

• Highly organised and able to plan and prioritise.

• Analytical and accurate.

• Excellent communicator and able to build and maintains excellent working relationships.

• Computer literate, with general Microsoft experience.

• Able to work under pressure.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with clients and colleagues.

• First class time management skills.

• Practical team player with a hands-on style.
