This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced industrial roofing & cladding Design Manager to join a very well-respected specialist sub-contractor.

About our Client

My client and a specialist sub-contractor within the building envelope sector. They specialise roofing, cladding & facade projects across the UK. These projects could be any value from £500k to £5million. Now they are looking to bring on an experienced Design Manager to head up the department.

About the Role

To review the contract documents and establish and understanding of our contractual obligations in respect of our scope of works

2) Delegate the project to a designer internal or external as agreed with the operations director and prepare a drawing programme (based on the one prepared by the Pre construction design manager) in conjunction with the operations manager and early RFI's schedule for submission and agreement with the client

3) Ensure that the design programme is being achieved and report internally any issues

4) Ensure or prepare necessary RFI schedule for timely submission in line with our internal design programme and advise of any issue to the operations manager or QS

5) Ensure drawing register, with dates to record submission, comments received, amended drawing issue and final approval date for all projects

6) Co-ordinate subcontract designs with drawings and ensure compliance for a full envelope solution

7) Attend internal project review meetings with the relevant project team members

8) Meet specialist subcontractors and suppliers to co-ordinate design and obtain information as required for to provide overall design responsibility

9) Once drawings fully approved by client provide material schedules to the procurement department

10) Computer literate in all systems and programmes being used within the estimating and design departments

11) Manage both internal and external design resources; if external ensure compliance with design programme and procedures

12) Record and advice of any potential variations to the Operations Manager and QS, in order that they can request official instruction from the client

13) Work closely with other internal departments providing a helpful and proactive advice and support

14) Understand H & S legislation and its impact on works

15) Ensure site visits are made to check as-built detailing and ensure amendments to drawings are made

16) Liaise with the site team to deal with any design issues and provide additional details are issued as necessary


About the Candidate           


Previously held a Design Managers  position for at least 3 years

Must come from roofing & cladding background

Used to managing a team of designers

Previously managed external designers
