Work Experience Will Help Students Applying for Construction Vacancies
16 July 2010
It?s coming to that time of the year when students are finishing school or university and beginning to look for construction vacancies. This of course is a challenge at the best of times for students with no experience in the sector behind them, but especially so with the job market still fragile.
Having good grades in the end of year exams or a degree in a relevant subject will be attractive to potential employers. However, for some students having to leave university early either for personal or financial reasons, finding a job can prove to be very difficult.
Leaving university early may not be the fault of the student and we are all painfully aware of the rising levels of debt they may find themselves in due to education fees. So what is the best way for former students in this position to go about looking for construction vacancies?
While not an ideal scenario, one good way is to find work experience over the summer months perhaps when employers are looking for holiday cover. This means working for nothing although you might get paid expenses, which admittedly won?t be quite the same levels attained by some MPs recently.
Gaining work experience is invaluable though and could directly lead to a paid job, but will definitely be a plus for your CV. As with any sector it is always easier to get a job when you are already working. So even if your work is unpaid, it will be a big help when you apply for construction vacancies.
