Tough job, being an employer
10 October 2008
Even at financially difficult times, employers are looking for reliable staff. From the viewpoint of contractors, good employees are essential in their attempts to tender for new work. This means they don’t just take their pick from the hundreds of CVs they receive everyday. Instead, they want someone who has experience and ambition; they are also keen to provide him or her with a positive and quick response.
Take quantity surveying, one of the most demanded jobs in recent years. A quantity surveyor (QS) is a professional who manages and controls costs within construction projects and who, in the process, may use a range of management procedures and technical tools. Because there are plenty of such talents out there, employers are eager to talk to all the candidates in order to ensure that when the right project comes up there will be an opportunity for the right person.
Employers don’t just sit there and wait for people to knock on their doors. As any contractor will be quick to tell you, being an employer is a tough job. Taking a proactive approach helps contractors evaluate the individual needs and demands of their candidates. Prior to recruitment, employers also need to review their business strategies and performances in order to find applicants who best suit the posts. This enables employees to feel fulfilled and willing to stay with their firms longer.
Today’s job seekers desire companies that offer great leadership and well-designed development programmes. People need to feel valued, particularly at financially difficult times when businesses need to retain their skilled staff. It takes employers and employees together to achieve success and make all dream jobs come true.
