Thousands Of New Logistics Jobs Could Be Created With New Anglia Enterprise Zone
Regional business bosses have picked a scheme based around the towns of Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth as their preferred option for a new ‘enterprise zone’ in East Anglia.
The Eastern Daily Press reports that the board of New Anglia, the jobs partnership for Norfolk and Suffolk, will make a submission to the government for an enterprise zone in the two towns after the plans beat off competition from four other locations including King’s Lynn and Bury St Edmunds.
Enterprise zones to create thousands of manufacturing and logistics jobs
Enterprise zones offer reduced bureaucracy and useful tax breaks in order to attract new businesses, and they are an important part of the coalition government’s policy to create new jobs.
The Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth enterprise zone would be spread across four sites in the two towns and will focus on attracting new businesses and creating manufacturing and logistics jobs in the energy sector. If the bid is successful, thousands of construction and logistics jobs could be created in East Anglia.
‘Thousands of new jobs across Norfolk and Suffolk’ could be created
Ann Steward from Norfolk County Council, said: “It is hard to over-emphasise how important this is to both towns, and to the wider area. A Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft Enterprise Zone would put the towns into a difference league when it comes to business and employment growth, with thousands of new jobs across Norfolk and Suffolk.
“Gaining Enterprise Zone status would bring fresh impetus to the momentum that is already building in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft around renewable energy industries. Combine their east coast location with Enterprise Zone status and it starts to look like an unbeatable combination.
