Skills Required for Construction Manager Jobs
13 August 2010
During economically challenging times it is important to have the best people in construction manager jobs to steady the ship and bring about plans to ensure the company thrives once more. This of course applies to managers in any industry but especially so in the construction industry, which has probably suffered more than most as a result of the UK recession.
Research done by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) this year highlighted what they found to be the skills required in construction manager jobs. In fact the CIOB found that 70 percent of respondents to their survey felt that the qualities and skills needed by construction managers are different to those needed by managers in other industries.
The main reason cited for this was that construction manager jobs require people to be much more adaptable and flexible in their approach. For example, managers in construction have to adapt to the amount of legislation changes that impact the industry more than others. That at least is the perception of managers in the construction industry.
Construction manager jobs also require people with the technical knowledge and experience to be able to manage complicated projects. In other industries it is not uncommon for managers to be employed purely to manage people and not necessarily for their product or technical knowledge.
More than ever though it seems a good manager in the construction industry will need to be a good motivator to ensure morale is maintained in what still remain difficult circumstances. Motivation is a skill that will be required by managers in all industries, including England?s World Cup coach.
