Scottish Wind Farm Extension To Create 80 New Construction Jobs
An extension to the Blacklaw wind farm in Scotland is set to create 80 new construction jobs as well as supplying power for 32,000 nearby homes.
The Wishaw Times reports that the wind farm, situated near Shotts, will be able to power almost 100,000 homes when the extension is completed in addition to providing £100,000 per year for projects in the region.
80 new construction jobs to be created
The extension to the wind farm involves creating 23 new wind turbines at the site. As well as creating much needed construction jobs in the area it also help improve the region’s carbon footprint.
Energy Minister Jim Mather said: “Blacklaw is already a successful wind farm which has turned an opencast mine into a green energy centre. Once the extension is complete, the wind farm will generate enough green electricity to power 98,000 homes.
“The development is also good for the local economy, with around 80 new jobs during construction and renewed opportunities for local contractors.”
Scotland is developing an excellent reputation for renewable energy engineering and other green initiatives and these 80 new construction jobs come after other similar projects were announced in the country over recent months. In addition to helping the local jobs market it is also helping Scotland become a much greener country.
The Wishaw Times reports that ‘the extension will make a valuable contribution to meeting 80 per cent of Scotland's electricity demand from renewable energy sources by 2020.’
