Road to Recovery for Jobs in Quantity Surveying and Other Construction Industry Related Roles Appear
12 May 2010

We hear quite a lot of news about jobs in quantity surveying, engineering and other construction related roles being created in and around London, but what about other parts of the UK? The industry has taken a big hit over the last two years, but there are sign of recovery and there are some major developments underway in other areas outside London.

For example a major expansion of the port in Bristol has been given the green light by the UK Government, which will be a great boost to the South West. It will enable larger container ships to dock at Bristol creating more jobs, but the development of the port will also be a welcome boost to the construction industry in the region.

Further south in the Isle of Wight, plans are being made for a ?1.2 billion highway maintenance program, which again will provide a welcome boost for local jobs. In fact road maintenance across the UK seems to be a priority given the masses of pot holes created as a result of the snow and ice of last winter.

This boost to jobs in quantity surveying, engineering and construction is all great news for the industry. However, the battle isn?t won yet as there will be a tightening of belts in the public sector as the government looks to repay some of the nation?s debt.

The good news is that the private sector is beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel not just in the UK but in other territories too. As a result jobs in quantity surveying, building, engineering and others related to the construction should start to pick up in line with the global economy.
