Renewable Energy Development To Create 300 Engineering Jobs In Scotland
Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, has announced a major new green project in the west of Scotland that is set to create over 300 research and engineering jobs in the region. And, a further 1,700 engineering jobs could be created in coming years with a wind farm manufacturing plant also in the planning stage.
Scotland’s ‘reputation for excellence’ in green energy creating engineering jobs
The initial 200 engineering jobs will be created at Doosan Power Systems, which is to locate its Renewables Research and Development base in Moorpark, Renfrew. Another 120 posts will be created at the nearby Steel Engineering for servicing the offshore wind and tidal power sector.
Mr Salmond recently visited both sites in the town. He said: “This latest, multi-million pound offshore wind investment announcement underlines Scotland’s growing reputation for excellence and innovation in clean energy, design and engineering.
“It is another great stride forward for the renewables industry in Scotland.”
£170 million of investment coming to Scotland
The Evening Times reports that ‘the deal is understood to be worth up to £170 million of investment over the next ten years.’
The 120 jobs at Steel Engineering jobs will double the company’s Renfrew workforce. The company is also in talks with Anniesland College in Glasgow to create a training school, to train staff in the latest fabrication and welding techniques for the renewables industry.
Jean-Michel Aubertin, Chief Executive of Doosan Power Systems, said: “We hope to develop cutting-edge wind power technology that will enhance the role of renewables in the energy mix. This is great news for Scotland’s economy in terms of jobs and inward investment.”
