Quantity Surveyor’s Jobs a Critical Process Within The Construction Industry
11 December 2009

There used to be a saying that a career in banking was a safe job, and whilst this was a terrible pun, it was quite true before the days of global markets and outsourcing. Realistically few jobs can be considered entirely safe these days, and we have seen over the last 12 months that this includes those in the banking industry.

However, given proper training and qualifications people in this country can make themselves more marketable, and there are some jobs that companies dare not do away with. Take quantity surveyor’s jobs for example, which are fulfilled by highly qualified and trained individuals and are a vital cog within the construction industry.

In troubled times quantity surveyors are perhaps as important to companies as at any other time, as their work is critical to the profitability of construction projects. In fact, through crucial negotiation a quantity surveyor can save his or her company a large amount of money.

Quantity surveyors are sought by companies throughout the UK with demand still strong due to a shortage of people with these skills. Building and civil engineering contractors, consultancies advising clients on construction costs, the property divisions of large organisations, local government and other public sector bodies are in particular looking out for excellent surveyors.

The jobless totals are slowing down now with recruitment agencies recording an upturn in new postings over the last two or three months. For anyone seeking a quantity surveying role, it is worth checking the Humres site regularly as new vacancies are coming up more and more.
