Quantity Surveyor Jobs Are Always Evolving
30 November 2009

Some career minded people would consider being stuck in a dead end job, behind a desk doing the same thing day in day out quite demoralising. For others that kind of a role suits them as there are no surprises, they know exactly what they are doing each day and they know what is expected of them.

Apart from earning a good if not astronomical salary, most people would consider job satisfaction as the most important part of their career, but this can mean different things to different people. It is fair to say that quantity surveyor jobs are not dull and can vary from day to day, and perhaps their duties have evolved over time.

This is due in part to advances in technology, which have enabled quantity surveyors to establish techniques for managing a wider variety of projects. This makes them much more marketable as their project management skills can effectively lead to them running entire projects from the design stage through to completion.

Surveyors are now able to use their skills in quantity surveyor jobs in a wider range of areas such as cost engineering in the petro-chemical and engineering industries, value engineering and risk assessment or even contractual disputes. These potential opportunities arise due to the increased expertise in cost predictions and control.

Quantity surveyors out there looking for work, who believe they have developed these skills should consider revisiting their CVs as potential employers need to be made aware of all the skills learned through experience. Staff at Humres are always willing and able to provide helpful advice on how to sell your skills and knowledge to potential employers.
