Plans For Hull Enterprise Zone Could Create Thousands Of Logistics Jobs
Plans for an ‘enterprise zone’ in Hull could bring in millions of pounds worth of investment and create thousands of logistics jobs. Council leaders in the county have submitted an expression of interest to the Government to create an enterprise zone adjacent to the Port of Hull.
Government incentives could help to create logistics jobs
In January, Siemens announced it had chosen Hull as the preferred location for a new wind turbine manufacturing plant. Councillor Carl Minns, leader of Hull City Council, said an enterprise zone near the port would act as ‘a catalyst’ to ensure the city took advantage of the opportunities in coming years.
He said: “We said the Siemens development would help to create 10,000 jobs. It's government programmes like this, along with a lot of hard work from all concerned, that will help us realise these jobs for the people of Hull.
"We now need to ensure we get the right training in place – the last thing we want is people coming into the area and taking them when we have engineers and other skilled workers on our doorstep."
Zone could create thousands of logistics jobs
If the plans are approved, businesses moving to the zone would benefit from simplified planning processes, cash for equipment and machinery and tax breaks.
The proposal has been submitted by the Hull, East Riding & Scarborough Shadow Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and a team of bodies have come together to ensure that the site comes to Hull, creating thousands of invaluable logistics jobs.
Mr Minns added: "The fact that we have a supporting letter from the Chamber of Commerce shows everyone is pulling in the right direction to make sure this investment and jobs come to Hull."
