Overseas Opportunities in the Construction Industry
04 September 2009

The construction jobs industry in the UK is a thriving and dynamic entity. And even if you?re attracted by the prospect of working overseas, the construction industry is the one industry that can offer you the best avenues to prove your mettle in a foreign country. The international scope of this industry is vast.

All big civil and structural engineering companies have a presence throughout the world. In addition, a lot of companies are engaged in specialist consultancies such as rail and geotechniques. Continuous demand for outstanding, skill-based manpower by these companies has opened up a gamut of opportunities abroad.

Best Opportunities Abroad-
1. Developed world- Environmental projects, commercial construction and decommissioning projects take place on an ongoing basis in the developed world. Leading companies keep abreast of the latest technologies and expertise to capitalise and bid on these projects. They seek to hire skilled professionals as and when the need arises.
2. Developing world- The developing world has a number of constructional needs and any company looking to make a mark overseas can hardly afford to overlook this booming market. Growing population, development and spurt in tourism in developing countries has led to a surge in construction projects. The main projects are in housing, commercial and office complexes, industrial plants and transport infrastructure such as revolutionary sea-links and flyovers etc which are underway with foreign collaboration.
3. Emerging Markets- These offer the most exciting opportunities for working abroad in the construction industry.

? The Middle East is the foremost emerging market because of a construction boom in Saudi Arabia and UAE. Projects include hotels, resorts, high rise constructions and hospitals.
? South Africa, South America and countries of former Soviet Union present untapped markets, ripe for development construction and are attracting major players in the construction industry.
? India?s IT boom has opened up new vistas in the construction sector with demand spiralling for commercial and residential projects to keep up with growing outsourcing and off-shoring of multinational businesses.
? China too has speeded up its infrastructural development. Growing urbanisation has led to a demand for first-rate construction expertise in the housing and power sectors.

UK educational qualifications in civil and structural engineering are recognised and highly respected the world over, and can get you plum jobs overseas in the construction industry.
