Office Construction - London Jobs Could be Helped by a Cheesegrater
16 June 2010
In the world of construction, London jobs have perhaps been a little easier to come by than in other parts of the UK. However, that is not say that the capital city has been awash with jobs for workers in the construction industry, but a number of developments have helped to keep some businesses profitable.
One can cite the Olympic Games and the developments helping to regenerate East London as prime examples of jobs being made available in construction. London jobs could well be further boosted by the news that additional offices are set to be built in the capital.
Developers are keen to take advantage of an expected rise in rents in Central London over the next few years. This forecasted rent increase has in part been caused by a shortage of new office space, which of course provides potential opportunities for ambitious developers.
One company already committed to various development opportunities in the capital is British Land. They have set aside ?475 million for office and residential builds in the capital and are looking to restart a building on Leadenhall in the city called the ?Cheesegrater?.
This 47-storey tower looks like a huge cheese grater and will go ahead if British Land can find potential partners or investors, providing 610,000 square feet of office space if they go ahead with the construction. London jobs in the construction industry could well be boosted if this and other potential developments go ahead over the next year or two.
