Marketing Job in the Construction Beckons for Archbishop?
22 January 2010
A huge public relations and marketing job is needed to get the construction industry, and indeed the UK economy back on track. With the UK remaining in recession for the sixth successive quarter, perhaps we need a little divine inspiration to get the country back on the right course in 2010.
Well perhaps the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams is the man for the marketing job, as he has called upon the government to stump up more money for the upkeep of Britain?s churches. Currently the government does not provide funds towards maintaining the 16,000 or so churches in the UK.
However, some of our European neighbours do provide state funding towards the maintenance and repair of churches and cathedrals. The French Government allocated approximately ?110 million towards such projects over the last two years.
Whilst congregations contribute a significant amount towards the maintenance of their churches, DR Williams claims this is still ?60 million short of what is actually needed. Given the current climate it seems unlikely the British Government will be willing to answer Dr Williams? call as cuts in spending will be the way ahead in 2010.
However, investing money in such a project would not only be a boost to the church, but would also greatly benefit the construction industry at a time when it badly needs it. For now though construction companies need to invest in talent in their marketing jobs, to help identify opportunities and generate new business.
