Learning Green Skills to Attract Construction and Surveying Jobs
09 April 2010
Anyone looking for or currently employed in construction and surveying jobs must be wondering what the future holds for them. The private sector has been hit hard and while many projects in the public sector have kept the industry afloat to some extent, the threat of government cuts in the future is a concern.
With a general election in the UK looming large many will be speculating what the key issues will be when the campaigning begins. Some may argue that campaigning started months ago, but there is no doubt that as well as the economy and what will or won?t have its budget cut, green issues and climate change will feature at some point.
Most people in the UK are of course aware of the perceived threat of climate change and as a result more are keen to do their bit to help. Housing and planning minister John Healey has announced a ?10 million investment to improve green skills and back a new wave of eco towns.
The green issue is something anyone looking for construction or surveying jobs should perhaps consider. Improving skills and knowledge in this area of the industry could be an important factor in businesses winning contracts over rival bidders, and individuals being offered a job over other applicants.
Planning policies to ensure new developments are built in the right places, and to help cut greenhouse gas emissions will very likely be implemented by the next government, be it a Labour or a Conservative one. In the meantime job seekers can be prepared for the growing needs of an environment friendly construction industry to boost their chance of building and surveying jobs.
