Land Surveying Jobs Crucial to Finding Areas for Development
26 April 2010
With an undoubted housing problem in the UK it would seem logical that land surveying jobs will play an important role in the construction industry over the next few years. Of course land surveying jobs are already very important, but as the population of the country increases at a rapid rate, the need to find suitable areas for development is becoming more urgent.
The state of the country?s finances is constantly being debated by our politicians and economic experts, but few will dispute the fact there is a chronic housing shortage in the UK. However, as a relatively small island finding the suitable space as well as funding to develop new towns and house the whole population is a big challenge.
So the need for qualified professionals to carry out land surveying jobs is as important as it ever has been, arguably even more so than in the 1930s and after the Second World War. Land surveying or geomatics as it more commonly known in the industry requires the surveyor to measure and collect data on specific areas of land, perhaps to assess whether it is suitable for development or if it is contaminated for example.
As well as assessing land due for redevelopment, geomatics surveyors survey other areas such as airports, landfill sites, and pipeline and distribution systems. Land surveying jobs provide the post holder with a very interesting career, which naturally is not confined just to an office and these professionals should be very much in demand over the coming years.
