Jobs in lighting: efficiency and quality
20 February 2009
Those with jobs in lighting often have to balance between the desire of their clients to maintain the quality of lighting and their need to cut down energy usage. The answer is simply to reduce the energy consumption, but not the lighting.
The idea is to maximise comfort with minimum energy output. Firstly, those with jobs in lighting can help their clients identify key zones or areas that require quality lighting, rather than the entire building. Individual needs and preferences should also be taken into consideration, as proper lighting helps cultivate motivation and enhance concentration. In particular, individuals at computer workstations require even and sufficient lighting in order to avoid reflections and glare.
Furthermore, it is the responsibility of those with jobs in lighting to help their clients specify and select lighting products that are economically efficient and environmentally friendly. More importantly, if outdated technology is replaced with modern systems, then up to 75 percent of the electricity costs spent on lighting in a typical office can be saved.
Finally, those with jobs in lighting need to constantly remind their clients that the most important asset any employer can have is the health and productivity of employees. To provide a perfect lighting solution that is designed for visibility is to place correct light in the correct location. This will ensure that all employees have sufficient light to carry out their daily tasks, while achieving the necessary cost savings to meet the employer’s budget requirements.
