Interviews for Construction Job Vacancies and Receiving Feedback
18 August 2010
It has been well documented that finding construction job vacancies has been difficult for many job seekers over the last two years. That is very frustrating, but once you find construction job vacancies, the process of applying for jobs and going through the interview phase has its frustrations too.
Of course this is a necessary process and the interview stage is very much a chance for both the employer and the candidate to find out more about each other. What is possibly as frustrating as looking for construction job vacancies is getting to the interview stage and then being turned down without knowing why.
One thing to remember is that you clearly have something to offer and a CV that works in order to have made it to the interview stage. That is a positive thought to keep in mind to ensure you stay motivated and keep applying for jobs.
In an article in the Daily Telegraph on July 22nd, James Caan of Dragon?s Den fame talks about thinking of an interview as a presentation, where you are the product that you need to sell. From the moment you enter the room, you are being evaluated so confidence, preparation and attention to detail is vitally important.
Caan also recommends obtaining quality feedback from the employer to ascertain why your interview was unsuccessful. Taking that feedback on board you might want to try a mock interview with a friend and rehearse your pitch.
Many other people in all sectors are experiencing the same frustrations but they key is to stay focused and not get too disheartened. The team at Humres are also on hand to provide great advice, so feel free to pick up the phone and talk to them.
