Interview Tips for Candidates Applying for a Construction Vacancy

Candidates applying for a construction vacancy will hopefully get a call to say they have been invited for an interview. This may seem like a daunting prospect, especially for those facing their first interview for a long time or indeed ever.

It is important to remember that you have applied for the construction vacancy because you know what skills you have and that you are well suited for the position. So long as everything presented in your CV and application is truthful, then there should be little to worry about.

However, it is also important to go to the interview well prepared by doing a little bit of research about the company with the construction vacancy you have applied for. Not only that but you need to be prepared for the types of questions that may come your way.

Practicing your answers and interview technique with a friends or trusted colleague can be great preparation and arm you with confidence going into the interview. Another good thing to take with you to an interview is relevant questions about the company, the team you are hoping to be working with and the training the company provides.

Always dress smartly for an interview and avoid chewing gum. Try and emit an air of confidence with your answers without coming across as arrogant, and maintain eye contact with the interviewers. Never give a dishonest answer.

One thing interviewees worry about is whether to ask about salaries, vacations, bonuses and other benefits. This is probably best left alone at the initial interview and can be discussed at a second interview. When the meeting is over, thank the interviewer for his or her time and tell them you look forward to hearing from them.
