Hundreds Of Logistics Jobs Set For Midlands Town
Burton could be the site for a brand new multi million pound warehouse complex which would create hundreds of logistics jobs in the town. The Burton Mail reports that ‘top secret plans’ to build the complex are being considered with logistics company Simarco confirming that negotiations are at an advanced stage.
Leading figures in Burton urge company to select town for new logistics hub
The new site will be Simarco’s fifth base in the UK and the company, a member of the Palletforce network, also has trade links with Belgium, Turkey, Poland, Spain and Germany.
Simarco wants to build a new distribution centre in the Midlands and Burton is one of the sites presently under consideration. Local industry leaders are keen for the logistics hub to be located in the town.
Dave Bryon, director of the Burton and District Chamber of Commerce, said: “I hope that Simarco sees all the benefits and does select Burton for its new expansion. We welcome any inward investment in to the Burton area.”
Burton MP Andrew Griffiths will also lobby for Simarco to choose the town and believes the local workforce can fill the logistics jobs. He said: “The chance to bring further development and jobs to Burton is a hugely exciting opportunity. Given that Burton already has Palletforce located in the constituency, this proves that the town is the perfect choice when thinking of building a logistics hub.
“I have already contacted Simarco to put the case for Burton and I hope to be meeting them shortly to urge them to bring their [logistics] jobs here.”
