Hundreds Of Engineering Jobs To Be Created In North East
An engineering firm in County Durham is set to add up to 200 staff to its workforce after winning a lucrative £50 million contract to build green exhaust systems for a Russian vehicle manufacturer.
GT Group expects to create 200 engineering jobs having beaten off competition from a number of international companies to win the contract with the GAZ Group.
Ambitions growth plans set to create 200 engineering jobs
GT Group, based in Peterlee, currently employs 300 staff and hopes to add another 200 engineering jobs over the next three years. The company will make up to 100,000 exhaust systems each year GAZ, Russia’s largest automotive manufacturer of buses, trucks, light commercial vehicles, cars, and diesel engines.
Geoff Turnbull, the chairman of GT Group, told the Northern Echo: “This prestigious contract with Russia’s leading manufacturer will further cement GT Group’s rapid growth and its reputation as one of the principal suppliers of engine brakes and exhaust gas control systems for the heavy duty diesel engine markets.
“It will also help GT Group achieve its plan to create an additional 200 jobs during the next three years.
“These will cover a range of disciplines, focusing on research, design, manufacture and highly-skilled engineers.”
Local MP Grahame Morris said he hoped as many of the new engineering jobs would be filled by local job seekers. He also praised the group’s training opportunities for young people in the area looking to start a career in engineering.
