A critical aspect of
HVAC jobs is to ensure good indoor air quality (IAQ) through efficient air distribution. Specifically, good air quality is extremely important to the health, comfort and wellbeing of people in the UK and other parts of Europe, as approximately 90 percent of their time is spent indoors.
Poor air quality is a known contributing factor to the Sick Building Syndrome and other health-related problems such as asthma. In order to eliminate presence of health-threatening pollutants and chemicals within a building, effective air distribution systems are needed to provide adequate ventilation. From designing such systems to their installation and ongoing maintenance, it is the responsibility of those with HVAC jobs to get everything right. Each of the individual elements, from ducting right through to the air terminal devices, should fit for its purpose.
Manufacturers of air distribution systems increasingly rely on “room testing???? to demonstrate how IAQ may be improved through the use of their products. For example, mock-up tests are conducted in laboratories on variable air volume (VAV) fan coil systems to explore how air volume and diffuser selection may affect air distribution within a room. The aim to be achieved by those with HVAC jobs is to enhance airflow while trying to produce savings in motor energy and carbon emissions. Other particular types of HVAC jobs may involve helping the client underpin specific parameters in order for the specialist manufacturer to provide guarantees that cover aerodynamics, thermodynamics and acoustics.
