HBF Demands Extra Housing Which Would Boost Construction and Building Surveying Jobs
16 April 2010
There is no doubt that help is needed in the housing market to boost construction and building surveyor jobs and meet the needs of a growing population. However, the construction of houses in the UK is at its lowest level since the Second World War.
The Home Builders Federation (HBF) is warning the situation needs to be addressed as a matter of great urgency with a shortfall of homes approaching one million. HBF executive chairman Stewart Baseley, says: ?We have a desperate and growing housing crisis that just has to be addressed.?
The HBF has produced statistics that show nearly five million people are on council housing waiting lists. They also believe that an estimated 1.6 million children are living in overcrowded, temporary or run down housing in this country.
Will Britain?s politicians take on board the recommendations of the HBF and take action to kick start the housing market and provide suitable housing for those on waiting lists? Finding suitable sites for new builds and of course the economic situation are clear hurdles that need to be negotiated, but there will be no shortage of workers willing to undertake the construction and building surveyor jobs.
With a rapidly rising and aging population the housing situation is becoming more urgent. Not only that but additional schools, hospitals and other infrastructure will be needed to cater for the increase in population with possibly brand new towns needed, which would make a big difference to construction and building surveying jobs.
