Graduate Job Searches for Engineering Roles Are Worth Pursuing
18 December 2009
Graduate job searches in many sectors have been difficult as the country struggles to pick itself up following several months of recession. Surprisingly though there are some roles that employers are finding difficult to fill in the field of engineering.
It seems graduate job searches should be easier in the world of engineering than in some other sectors, as employers are crying out for skilled engineers. An upsurge in the oil industry for example has meant more opportunities available for chemical, mechanical, structural and electrical engineers.
Other areas such as telecommunications and the UK defence industry are also looking for skilled workers, but the news hasn?t been quite so rosy in all sectors. The difficulties faced in the construction industry have been reported extensively over the past 12 months, but even here there are signs that this may improve in 2010.
Even the construction industry though has the need for quality skilled engineers, and the troubles encountered in the sector should not put off any interested engineering graduate. Job searches on websites like ours will show that there are positions becoming available on a fairly regular basis, and graduates just need a little patience and persistence to find their desired role.
Working on site or in an office as an engineer can be a rewarding role, with newly graduated trainee engineers perhaps starting out on approximately ?23,000. The average annual salary for chartered engineers is nearer to ?50,000 and something for graduates to aspire to.
