Giant Northern Ports Scheme Set to Create 5000 Logistics Jobs
An agreement to resolve objections to a giant port development scheme in the East of England has been reached this week. This paves the way for a £100 million scheme that would regenerate North Lincolnshire, creating thousands of logistics jobs.
Developer Able UK, the RSPB and Natural England have been working with North Lincolnshire Council over recent months to resolve objections to the planned development at the South Humber Gateway, on land near East Halton.
The Grimsby Telegraph reports that ‘a recommendation is now expected to be made to Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles, which would see him refer the application back to the council's planning committee for a final decision.’
Thousands of logistics jobs to be created
North Lincolnshire Council leader Councillor Mark Kirk said: "It is very welcome news that the concerns of the key nature conservation bodies have now been addressed in a way that satisfies both them and the aspirations of the developers. It has been a long process, but this marks a very significant step in creating a world-class development.
"This is without doubt the largest planning application in the region. It has huge economic potential for the region and will create thousands of jobs.
Group development director of the developers, Able UK, Neil Etherington said: "We share the council's belief that there is a massive opportunity to establish the South Humber as a world-class centre for ports-related services and renewable energy developments.
"Our plans for Able Humber Port embrace both – with the logistics park and the proposals for the Marine Energy Park – and have the potential to create many thousands of jobs, transforming the economic future of the entire area."
