Finding Construction Jobs Abroad Isn?t Easy, but not Impossible
28 June 2010
Finding construction jobs abroad isn?t necessarily going to be any easier than looking in the UK. However, it is still an appealing option to many British people looking for a new life overseas with perhaps a little more sunshine than this island can offer.
We have also seen a large number of Polish workers and other Eastern Europeans returning to their homelands when the prospects of employment reduced in Britain. Of course we are all well aware of the problems the UK has had over the last two years, but our problems are small compared to the economic troubles of Greece, Spain and Portugal to name but a few.
So a move to some European countries would be a gamble even with a job lined up before going, as the likelihood is that cuts will affect construction jobs abroad. Having language skills is always a big advantage not only in helping to settle quickly in a new country, but also in improving job prospects.
That said many British workers have carved out successful careers in Spain without learning a new language. Ex-pats often like to use British mechanics, builders, plumbers and other tradesmen to carry out repairs or new builds.
Getting construction jobs abroad is easier within the European Union as there is no need to apply for a work permit. Whilst opportunities for construction jobs abroad may be limited in the current economic climate there is always a need for excellent skilled workers if you look hard enough.
