Fastest Growth since 1963 Provides Optimism for Brits Looking to Find Construction Jobs
British men and women looking to find construction jobs will have been greatly heartened by economic news released in July. Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed the UK economy had grown by 1.1 percent in the second quarter of 2010, which was almost double the expected rise.
So why was this good news for those looking to find construction jobs? Well the ONS figures also revealed that a key component of this rise in growth was the construction industry, which grew at its fastest pace since 1963. This was the year President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and the Beatles earned their first UK number one single.
Whilst it may be premature to start waving flags and blowing our vuvuzelas in celebration, this is very heartening for everyone concerned. After the torrid two years the industry has endured, these statistics provide hope that construction can maintain this growth for the rest of the year.
It has to be noted though that this huge rise in growth in the construction industry was in part due to the bad weather at the start of the year. This meant that builders had to catch up on work they could not complete in the first quarter of the year.
Whilst cuts in the public sector may also rein back any future growth, there is evidence that the private sector is regaining confidence with more and more big developments underway across the country. This website also gives some evidence of more vacancies in the industry, making it a little easier to find construction jobs in the second half of 2010.
