Facilities management continues to grow as Carillion secures major new deal

Are you looking for a job in facilities management?

If so, recent figures have shown that whilst the industry isn?t growing at the speed of a few years ago, it is still a sector that is reporting year on year growth. According to figures from Management Market Development (MMD), whilst growth has slowed over the past two years to just one per cent in 2010, the sector is still expanding, providing good news for workers.

And, the good news for the sector continued this week with news that Carillion has sealed a long term facilities management deal with the Land Registry.

Growth slows but some areas of market remain lucrative

FM World reported that the total value of the facilities management market is now ?118.8 billion, although growth has slowed from five per cent in 2007 to just one per cent in 2010.

However, FM World has found that certain areas of the market remain lucrative for firms. Local and central and local government contracts are becoming increasingly valuable to firms as cost-cutting results in multi-service bundled contracts. In addition, the MMD report anticipates that development will increase over the next five years as outsourcing continues to become more popular.

The future also seems bright for the sector, with the MMD report predicting that development will increase over the next five years as the trend for outsourcing continues.

Carillion secure five year facilities management deal

An example of the increased prevalence of outsourcing was seen this week when Carillion announced that they had agreed a five year deal to provide a range of traditional hard and soft facilities management services at Land Registry's 37 premises across England and Wales. The firm will also provide services including business continuity management and space management.

Richard Sykes, managing director of Carillion, said: "We work hard to understand every aspect of a customer?s business in order to establish a high-quality service that is specifically tailored to suit their needs.?
