Engineering Jobs Growing Faster than Almost All Other Sectors
Are you looking for a job in engineering?
If so, 2011 could be a good year for you. A new report has found that there was more demand for engineering workers in January than any other sector except IT and manufacturing. With a shortage of both permanent and temporary engineers at the start of 2011, now could be the perfect time to find your new engineering job.
Growing demand for engineering workers
The research from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and professional services firm KPMG found that, in addition to the growth seen in the construction industry, there was a growing demand for employees to fill permanent engineering jobs in January 2011.
On a scale where any score above 50 represents growth on the previous month, the demand for engineering staff in January was 60.3. The report also found an increases demand for temporary engineering workers, with demand at 63.3.
What this data shows is that recruitment consultancy companies reported a shortage of both temporary and permanent engineers during January.
Engineering jobs growing at fastest rate for six months
All sectors showed a growth in demand for people to fill engineering jobs. The data showed that both permanent staff placements and temporary contracts were growing at their fastest rate for six months.
Bernard Brown, KPMG partner and head of business services, said: "Employers across all sectors have been expanding their workforce in January, with no real pressure building on wage inflation. Importantly, there was a real bounce from the previous month's figures for blue collar, engineering and IT-related jobs."
