Draughtsman Jobs: Career Overview and Salary

A Draughtsman is a person who draws detailed technical plans and drawings that are required for the construction of buildings, houses, and other structures. Draughtsmen also draw up plans and drawings that enable the manufacturing of all kinds of products such as machinery, toys, pipelines, spacecrafts, furniture etc.

In short, it is the job of the draughtsman to be able to accurately convert the ideas of a designer, architect, or an engineer onto paper. Since there are approximately 24 different types of disciplines related to draughtsman, the career choice can be quite an exciting one.

Here?s a look at some of the different types of draughtsman jobs:

? Mechanical draughtsman: Plans of mechanical apparatus such as engines and machinery need to be drawn up.
? Mining draughtsman: They draft drawings of the entire mine, including the cross sections of all the underground tunnels. Safety plans for the mines are also drafted by them.
? Aeronautical draughtsman: All the technical drawings needed for the manufacture of aeroplanes, spacecrafts, and missiles as well as all their components are prepared by these draughtsmen.

? Town and regional planning draughtsman
? Electrical draughtsman
? Civil draughtsman
? Construction draughtsman
? Structural engineering draughtsman

Salary

The average salaries for draughtsmen fall in the range of ?35,000 to ?40,000. Specific salaries depend on the specialty and the field of the draughtsman, as well as their experience and the location at which they work. For instance, average annual draughtsman salaries in London were about ?5,000 greater than those in other parts of UK. The lowest 10% of draughtsmen earn about ?22,000 per annum, whereas the upper 10% can earn in excess of ?70,000 each year.
