Dozens of specialist construction jobs to be created in Liverpool
21 January 2011
There was great news in Liverpool this week for anyone looking for jobs in engineering, scaffolding jobs or specialist construction sales jobs. The City Council has made a decision to sign up dozens of small, specialist contractors to carry out public building repair work in the city worth a total of ?70 million.
Bidding is open until February with dozens of construction jobs expected to be created.
Public building maintenance contracts require specialist engineering jobs
Liverpool City Council has decided to offer maintenance and repair packages to up to fifty contractors. Sefton Council was recently caught by the collapse of Connaught, and so contracts for the upkeep of council owned homes, public buildings and local schools are now available.
Whilst Mears may have replaced Connaught on the housing repairs job in Sefton, Liverpool City Council officials have decided to spread forthcoming repair and maintenance work among a number of contractors rather than employing one large firm.
Council procurement managers are also hoping the four-year framework of these agreements will help them meet new spending budgets through cost savings.
Packages require different construction skills
Liverpool City Council says that general work packages will be broken up into 31 lots covering a range of different specialist trades. The packages will feature work valued at between ?100,000, ?500,000 and ?3 million.
The specialist skills that will be required will include scaffolding, asbestos removal, ground works, M&E services, ground investigation and paving. It is hoped that both engineering jobs and jobs in scaffolding will be created.
Companies have until 9 February to register their interest in these construction jobs.
