Demand for Plasterers Remains High Within Construction Jobs in the UK

One of the most valued types of construction jobs in the UK must surely be that of the plasterer. During a difficult period for the housing market, demand for plasterers is quite substantial as home owners seek to improve their current abode rather than move elsewhere.

Plasterers always seem to be busy whether they are helping to renovate an old building, plaster the new extension or smooth over a ghastly area of 1970s artex. This is a skilled job that has baffled and frustrated many DIY homeowners.

There are approximately 40,000 plasterers working in the UK and demand has been increasing due to government housing development schemes. For students or people looking for a career change, this is one of the construction jobs in the UK well worth getting good training for.
A good way to get started as a plasterer is through an apprenticeship scheme by learning both on the job and on courses. Pre-requisite qualifications for plastering apprenticeships include GCSE Maths, English, Design Technology or corresponding vocational qualifications such as a Diploma in Construction.
A Construction Apprenticeship Scheme (CAS) is also available to 16 to 25 year olds living in England and Wales. Full and part time college courses can be taken by anyone with the City & Guilds Basic Construction Skills award an excellent example.
At a time when there is a degree of uncertainty still in the industry, plastering is one of the construction jobs in the UK that will remain in demand. It is a profession suitable for anyone with good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail and who is physically fit.
