Construction Jobs in Asia May Need Skilled British Workers
The debacle surrounding the facilities for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi make you wonder whether construction jobs in Asia need a helping hand from skilled Brits. The situation in India was surprising given the growth of the economy there and the wealth of people in search of work.
However, India is experiencing growth in almost all sectors and unfortunately companies find there is a high turnover of staff. That said there are UK companies with bases in India and other parts of Asia always keen to have skilled workers, whether they are Indians or British.
Any skilled construction worker, be it a surveyor, site manager or engineer, looking for a change of scenery might like to hunt for construction jobs in Asia. There are many countries in the continent that speak English and also have close ties with the UK.
Some of the things you cannot be sure of are working practices and laws in another country, let alone a different continent. Health and safety is not quite so widely enforced in much of Asia and in some countries such as India, bamboo is still widely used for scaffolding (and is very safe by all accounts).
Construction jobs in Asia may be an attractive proposition to some as there are some very attractive countries in the continent to work with a shortage of skilled construction workers. In the meantime, let?s hope that lessons are learned from Delhi?s 2010 Games, and that London has the resources to finish building for the Olympics in good time.
