Construction Careers Stay on Track with High Speed Rail Links
25 June 2010
Contrary to what some people may think construction careers are not a thing of the past. Anyone reading any news about the construction industry over the last two years would understandably think this is a sector on a downward spiral, but there are many glimmers of hope for workers.
Whilst it is true the UK Government is cutting some construction related projects, others have been given the green light. The government has shown a clear commitment to helping the environment with some green initiatives and energy saving ideas, as well as forging ahead with important high speed rail links.
One of the projects will be to build a ?17 billion rail link between London and Birmingham, which will be an addendum to the draft high speed rail bill. This is encouraging news for employees worried about their construction careers, as it shows the belt tightening and cuts will not put a stop to all investment during this term of parliament.
HS2 Ltd is a company set up by the Government to look in to the benefits of high speed rail links in the UK. It seems the Government is already sold on some of these benefits as it looks to use high speed rail as an alternative to short haul flights.
A high speed rail link between London and Birmingham could reduce journey times by 30 minutes and hopefully other projects will benefit commuters throughout the country. Not only that, but work on our rail network will be a welcome boost to construction careers in the UK.
