Construction Boom Creates 120 Teesside Engineering Jobsobs
A revival in international markets has proved to be a timely fillip for the engineering form Cummins who have recently announced that they are creating 120 engineering jobs in Teesside. Thanks to a construction boom in Brazil and China, the company is adding over a hundred staff to its existing 700 strong workforce.
Influx of orders leads to new engineering jobs
An influx of orders to the Darlington based company has resulted in a need for 120 more service engineers, project managers and maintenance technicians. The plant will produce an additional 7,000 engines in the second half of 2011.
Cummins said that the construction-led growth in China and Europe and a rise in the Brazilian automotive market had led to the upsurge in work.
Steve Nendick, communications director at the Teesside plant, said: “The China and South America economies are still growing and given that we’re a global company, we’ve been able to adapt to peaks in demand wherever they occur in the world.”
Engineer highlights upturn in manufacturing and construction jobs
The additional jobs come on the back of recent news that Jaguar Land Rover was awarding over £2 billion of contracts for 40 UK companies, creating thousands of engineering jobs.
These announcements give fresh impetus to the British construction and manufacturing recovery, which were encouraged last month by figures showing that activity had risen to its highest level for eight months.
The latest Purchasing Managers’ index (PMI) for the construction sector rose to 56.5 in February 2011 from 53.7 in January (a reading over 50 indicates growth). This was boosted by a rise in house-building activity.
