Chartered Surveyor Jobs Provide a Challenging but Rewarding Career
14 April 2010
It has to be said that chartered surveyor jobs are not mundane 9 to 5 desk based positions for pencil pushers. In fact surveyors working in the construction are lucky to have such a diverse and interesting job.
Well lucky might not be the right word as becoming a qualified chartered surveyor is pretty hard work, but the effort is certainly worth it. Not only that, but in spite of a wretched time for the construction industry and if we are honest, the country as a whole, surveyors are still well sought after.
School leavers or anyone looking for a change of career could do a lot worse than taking on a relevant course to become a qualified surveyor. So what do chartered surveyor jobs entail if it doesn?t mean being stuck behind a desk all day, and what sort of salary can be earned from working in the profession?
A certain amount of time is office based but surveyors also get to visit construction sites as well as meet with a wide range of people connected to the industry, such as building contractors, architects, company executives or even government officials. There is a perception for some that chartered surveyor jobs require long hours, but this is not strictly true as they compare favourably on average with law and accountancy for example.
Salaries are good with the average for 23 to 26 year olds ?32,000, but with experience and skill six figure bonuses for large deals are not unheard of. There may also be opportunities for work abroad and the types of work involved can vary greatly, making chartered surveyor jobs very satisfying.
