CIOB Call for Government Investment to Boost Construction and Quantity Surveying (QS) Jobs
11 June 2010

People looking for construction and quantity surveying (QS) jobs are probably keen to find out what is in store for the country under a new administration. With a deal finally put together between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, the construction industry is seeking to find out what can be done to boost jobs.

In fact the ink was barely dry on the agreement between the coalition partners when lobbyists began work on fighting for their own particular causes. This is only to be expected as it is clear that budgets will be cut in order to pay off the huge deficit faced by the UK.

Can construction and QS jobs be generated under such circumstances? The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) certainly hopes so and has already called for investment. The CIOB wants the new coalition to ?build the UK?s future and invest in construction?.

A day after the coalition was confirmed Chris Blythe the chief executive of the CIOB urged the new government to create a sustained program of investment in construction. He said: ?Investment in the built environment can spread the benefits of an economic stimulus to all parts of the UK?.
Whether Blythe?s comments are observed, considered and implemented as part of a building program in the UK remains to be seen. Meanwhile, in a period of cuts, hopefully there won?t be a negative impact on construction and QS jobs, and we are seeing new vacancies being posted regularly on the Humres website.
