Building a Career with Jobs in Construction Management
Anyone look for jobs in construction management are going to need to have a strong and varied knowledge of the industry. For example, one area that is especially important in the construction industry is the issue of health and safety.
The new coalition government is keen to bring back common sense in society and allow cheese rolling competitions down hillsides and conker fights in the playground once again. However, health and safety rules on building sites will remain and jobs in construction management will require candidates with excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject.
Of course a construction manager needs a vast amount of knowledge in many other areas and it may mean that employers will be looking for candidates with specific skills. Jobs in construction management require organised and decisive people who can communicate well, motivate staff, solve problems, have good numeracy and IT skills, are physically fit and of course know health and safety regulations.
People starting out in the construction industry may wonder how they can plan their career accordingly to eventually become a construction manager. Trainees generally start out as estimators, planners, buyers, site engineers or assistant site engineers.
Workers with the ambition to become a construction manager can progress to more complex projects and hopefully then achieve their goal. Gaining qualifications as part of this career progression is also a good idea with the Chartered Institute of Building offering professional courses.
There are opportunities to be found with construction and utility companies for example. Management roles are challenging but offer a good salary and enormous satisfaction when a project is successfully completed.
