Better Times Ahead for Graduates Pursuing a Construction Career
02 July 2010

Many school leavers and graduates may have been put off pursuing a construction career given the recent gloomy times experienced in the UK. Whilst the country is not completely out of the woods yet, it seems after a bleak period for graduates the tide is turning in their favour again.

Recent statistics have shown consecutive months of growth in the construction industry after two years of hardship for this sector. Not only that, but businesses in all sectors had been cutting back on their intake of university leavers with an 11 percent fall in recruitment of graduates.

However, the future looks a lot brighter now for graduates with the news that just under 40 percent of companies are planning to raise their graduate recruitment targets this year compared to 2009. The figures came from a survey of nearly 100 companies by the Association of Graduate Recruiters and offer welcome news for the British students and job seekers.

A construction career could now be reality for graduates as opposed to just an aspiration with this good news. Of course there has to be an element of caution added to the news as we await cuts in public sector spending over the next two or three years, but the outlook for the private sector is altogether much rosier.

Graduates keen on a construction career are advised to sign up to top recruitment agencies specialising in the industry, such as Humres as well as visiting job fairs. The prospects of an exciting career in the construction industry look a lot brighter in 2010.
