Apprenticeships Open Doors For Carpenter Jobs
23 June 2010
Carpenter jobs are still much sought after in Britain particularly with many home owners seeking to extend or restyle their houses rather than move. However, within the construction industry even skilled tradesmen such as carpenters have struggled to find work as the recession hit hard.
The UK economy is hopefully on the upward curve, pulling construction along with it and giving renewed optimism for carpenters, electricians, builders, surveyors and any other professionals in the industry. In spite of cuts in the public sector many analysts believe the private sector is recovering sufficiently to justify the renewed hope in the construction industry.
A good way to find carpenter jobs within the construction industry is to apply for an apprenticeship, which are available to residents 18 or older. In order to qualify you will need to have obtained good passes in woodwork, maths, algebra, geometry and English as well as having good manual skills and classes in blueprint reading provide helpful pre-entry qualifications.
The carpentry apprenticeships involve four years of work with both practical and academic training provided. This is a great learning ground for carpenter jobs with training given in related topics such as carpentry theory and techniques, mathematics and first aid.
The best learning comes through actually doing carpenter jobs alongside being taught wood treatment skills and how to use the tools of the trade amongst many other things. Construction companies ultimately hire the best tradesmen with proven skills, so experience is a key element too but is well worth all the effort beginning at apprentice level.
