There are certain trades that will always demand an in spite of the nervous nature of the jobs market, electrician construction jobs will still be much needed. Electricians are still much in demand in the UK with small to large construction firms keen to employ proven quality workers.
In the UK there are around 23,000 electrical contractors employing approximately 200,000 electricians. Employers range from small family businesses to large national, multi-service companies employing thousands at home and abroad.
So what kind of skills, knowledge and attitude do candidates require prior to applying for electrician construction jobs? Of course an interest in electronics is a key criterion, but electricians also need to have an analytical mind, be good at problem solving and have the ability to follow technical drawings and plans.
Physical fitness is also very important, along with normal colour vision, steady hands and excellent concentration. As an addendum a candidate will need to be a qualified electrician by having an appropriate NVQ Level 3 and a technical certificate.
Even after having attained a Level 3 qualification it is possible to progress further by earning a Level 4 or even degree level. This will not only improve a job seekers prospects of landing electrician construction jobs, but may also lead to opportunities at technician or management level.
A good way to start out is by taking an apprenticeship, combining on the job training with study at a college or training centre. An apprenticeship will normally last for about 42 months and can lead to a great career, either as a self employed electrician or working for an employer.
