A Wind of Change for Quantity Surveying (QS) Jobs
28 April 2010

There are many new innovations in the construction industry that should hopefully provide various roles such as quantity surveying (qs) jobs over the coming years. Concern over the damage that may or may not be caused to the environment has forced governments and businesses to rethink how we meet the demands of the population.

Sustainable energy is changing the way professionals in the construction industry go about their engineering, building and qs jobs. For example the coastline of Britain is ever changing with more and more wind farms being erected as the way forward to producing more sustainable energy.

The UK Government continues to back this policy as well as looking at the nuclear energy option. This can only be a good thing for the construction industry as it will surely encourage more projects and subsequently give a welcome boost to positions such as engineering, construction and qs jobs amongst others.

The UK Government?s commitment to offshore wind farms was underlined in Alistair Darling?s March budget speech. The Government pledged ?60 million for a competition to develop manufacturing and assembly sites for the offshore wind industry, claiming that this demonstrates the UK is the world?s top destination for offshore wind energy investment.

The good news is that Siemens plans to invest ?80 million in the UK for offshore wind production facilities. GE, Mitsubishi and Clipper are among others planning to invest over here with the promise of the creation of many more jobs, providing a great boost for the UK employment market.
