A Lack of Energy and Enthusiasm, Not Ageism, May Stop You Landing Senior Construction Jobs
Whether you are hunting for junior level positions or senior construction jobs, it is always vital to present your case to prospective employers properly. Experienced workers can all to easily make the mistake of presenting their CV as a list of jobs done, which is not only monotonous but may also bear no relevance to the job you are applying for.
Essentially your applications for senior construction jobs should be no different to any other job application. Of course the experience counts for a lot, but employers need to see that presented in a reader friendly fashion and be able to understand how your skills will meet the job criteria.
Unfortunately some older people do get wrapped up in the idea that employers are being ageist and ignoring their CVs. It may be that complacency has crept in with the job seeker and they don?t recognise the fact they are not selling themselves in the right way.
Of course ageism has been illegal in the UK since 2006 and there have been over 5,000 claims against age discrimination made in the first nine months of this year. The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) are happy to hear from anyone that feels they have a legitimate claim for age discrimination.
However, the employer has every right to judge candidates for any positions on their experience as well as their energy and enthusiasm for the jobs. Therefore, when applying for senior construction jobs that energy and enthusiasm must come across clearly to the employers.
