1,700 logistics jobs to be created in South Yorkshire
There was some great news for the logistics sector recently with the announcement that 1,700 new logistics jobs are to be created at a site in South Yorkshire. Gazeley, the leading provider of logistics space, has purchased a 100 acre site at West Moor Park in Doncaster for an undisclosed sum from Blue Anchor Leisure.
Gazeley intends to create a brand new logistics centre at the site – a project which is expected to create 1,700 jobs in the region.
£100 million scheme is a huge boost for local logistics jobs
Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council granted outline planning permission for 1.5 million sq ft of industrial/distribution and incorporated office accommodation back in December 2009. When the site is fully completed, the value of the scheme is estimated to reach approximately £100 million.
Earlier phases of the West Moor Park site in Doncaster have attracted tenants including Ikea, Scotts Miracle-Gro and Next.
South Yorkshire home to some of the UK’s leading logistics facilities
Nigel Dolan, development manager at Gazeley, said: "This highly sought-after site is an excellent addition to our growing portfolio and will further enhance our presence in a key logistics region in the UK.
"South Yorkshire is home to some of the UK’s leading distribution facilities and we can deliver bespoke, high quality logistics accommodation on a design and build basis for occupiers who want to capitalise on the site’s key location. The potential for job creation is immense and we look forward to opening negotiations with occupiers."
