About the Job:
 The Structural Steel Estimator will play a crucial role in accurately assessing project costs and providing detailed estimates for structural steel projects. The Structural Steel Estimator will work closely with the sales, engineering, and project management teams, and will utilize their expertise in cost analysis, material sourcing, and construction methods to develop comprehensive estimates that support our business objectives and ensure project profitability.

About the role:

Project Evaluation:

  • Review project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documentation to gain a thorough understanding of project requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to evaluate site conditions, logistical challenges, and project complexities.

Cost Analysis:

  • Estimate material quantities, labor hours, equipment costs, and other project expenses based on project scope and specifications.
  • Analyze historical data, market trends, and supplier quotes to determine accurate cost projections for materials and services.

Bid Preparation:

  • Prepare detailed and competitive bids and proposals in response to client inquiries and tender invitations.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop pricing strategies that align with company objectives and client expectations.

Vendor Management:

  • Source and negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain competitive pricing and favorable terms.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with reliable suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.

Risk Assessment:

  • Identify and assess potential risks, uncertainties, and contingencies that may impact project costs and timelines.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks and optimize project profitability while maintaining quality standards.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bid documents, and correspondence with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Generate clear and comprehensive reports summarizing project costs, assumptions, and key factors influencing pricing decisions. 

About the Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field
  • Proven experience in structural steel estimating, cost analysis, and bid preparation within the construction industry
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, Timberline) and familiarity with industry-standard tools and resources
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement
